It was their first time feeling the sunshine, running in the grass and even being outside of a lab.
Video of nine rescued beagles playing outside for the first time ever after a life of being poked and prodded in a laboratory has touched the hearts of millions of people across the web.
The Beagle Freedom Project rescued the "Lucky 9" on May 5 from a lab in Nevada, and then brought them to a sunny and spacious backyard in Las Vegas where they were able to feel the grass beneath their paws for the first time.
The 3-year-old dogs were all bred for animal research, so a few of the pups met the new experience with some anxiety and even reverted to huddling in a crate. After awhile, though, the dogs warm up and embrace the new-found freedom.
Because of their docile and forgiving nature, beagles are often used for laboratory research and then euthanized once the tests are done, according to the Beagle Freedom Project.
