A tragic midair collision between an American Airlines plane and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter left at least 19 people confirmed dead, with ongoing rescue operations in harsh winter conditions.
The crash, which occurred on January 29, involved a commercial flight departing from Wichita, Kansas, and a military training exercise. Aboard the aircraft were 60 passengers, four crew members, and three soldiers.

Local resident Ari Schulman described the unsettling sight: “The plane seemed normal at first, but suddenly veered sharply, and then I saw sparks.” Seconds later, the two aircraft collided, sending debris into the Potomac River.
