Trump Names Alina Habba to Interim Federal Prosecutor Post

March 24, 2025 – Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump has appointed Alina Habba, his personal attorney and White House counselor, as the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. The move has already sparked national attention, given Habba’s close ties to Trump and her high-profile legal history.

A Bold Appointment

“Alina will lead with the same diligence and conviction that has defined her career,” Trump announced on Truth Social. “She will fight tirelessly to secure a Legal System that is both ‘Fair and Just’ for the wonderful people of New Jersey.”

Habba, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), responded: “I am honored to serve my home state of New Jersey as Interim U.S. Attorney and I am grateful to President Trump for entrusting me with this tremendous responsibility… We will end the weaponization of justice, once and for all.”

From Legal Counsel to Federal Prosecutor

Habba replaces John Giordano, who will now be nominated as the U.S. Ambassador to Namibia. A native of New Jersey, Habba gained national recognition as Trump’s legal representative in numerous cases, including a $100 million lawsuit against the New York Times and his niece Mary L. Trump.

A Career Built on Controversy and Loyalty

After earning her law degree from Widener University Commonwealth Law School in 2011, Habba clerked for New Jersey Superior Court Judge Eugene Codey Jr. and practiced law in the state for eight years. In 2020, she launched her own firm, focusing on civil and commercial litigation.

She met Trump at his Bedminster, NJ golf club, which led to her first major case with him. While some of her legal challenges—like the New York Times suit—were dismissed, she earned praise from Trump for defending him in several controversial matters, including the dismissal of a defamation suit from former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos.

However, her legal tactics haven’t always yielded success. A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit she filed alleging a conspiracy by Hillary Clinton and others, resulting in a nearly $1 million sanction against Trump and Habba for abusing the court system.

Trump’s Endorsement Remains Strong

In a previous announcement naming Habba as his presidential counselor, Trump stated: “Alina has been a tireless advocate for Justice, a fierce Defender of the Rule of Law… standing with me through numerous ‘trials,’ battles, and countless days in Court.”

This latest appointment further cements Habba’s position as a trusted figure in Trump’s inner circle and signals the administration’s continued emphasis on reshaping the Justice Department’s leadership in key regions.
