A prominent Mexican politician was shot and killed while dining at a local seafood restaurant in Teocaltiche, a town in the troubled state of Jalisco. The victim, Jose Luis Pereira, who served as the Secretary General of the Teocaltiche City Council, was gunned down around 4:57 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2025.
Emergency personnel arrived quickly on the scene but were unable to save Pereira, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The brazen attack occurred in broad daylight and has sent shockwaves throughout the local and national political landscape.
