Tragic Incident in Baltimore: Family Demands Answers After Police Pursuit Ends Fatally

A tragic collision during a police pursuit in Baltimore has left a community grieving and demanding answers. Dion Lamar Taylor, 20, died after being struck by a Baltimore County police car while fleeing on foot following an alleged carjacking incident.

According to authorities, Taylor and two other suspects were involved in the carjacking of a pizza delivery driver near Merle Drive around 4 p.m. The chase that ensued led police to Northern Parkway and Highgate Drive, where the suspects abandoned the moving vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

During the pursuit, one police cruiser struck the car, while another accidentally struck Taylor, fatally injuring him. Baltimore County Police Cpl. Shawn Vinson stated, “From what we can tell at this point, there's nothing that shows that this officer intentionally struck the suspect.” Authorities also noted that a handgun was discarded during the chase and later recovered.

Teisha Cook, Taylor’s mother, spoke to reporters with heartbreaking emotion. “The whole time I’m trying to find my son, not knowing that he was underneath the car... I couldn’t find him. I was calling and texting him with no response,” she recounted.

Cook strongly maintains that her son was not a criminal, describing him as a “homebody” and questioning the events that led to his death. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Taron Kelly, another suspect, has been arrested and charged with armed robbery, armed carjacking, motor vehicle theft, and handgun offenses. The third suspect remains at large.

The officer involved in the fatal incident has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation. Baltimore City Police are handling the crash investigation, while the community waits for more information on what led to the tragic outcome.
