They show up with guns. Their faces are covered. Their cars have fake plates.
And no one — not even the LAPD — knows who they are.
Federal immigration agents are staging raids across Los Angeles in unmarked vehicles and without identifying themselves. Videos show masked men drawing guns on pedestrians and hauling people away, all while refusing to present badges or warrants.
City officials, including Mayor Karen Bass, are furious. “Who are these people?” she asked after a confrontation at Dodger Stadium.
But federal officials aren’t talking. And the fear in the streets is rising.
