Lexington, KY – July 13, 2025: A terrifying scene unfolded Sunday morning at Richmond Road Baptist Church. It began when a state trooper was shot during a traffic stop near Lexington’s airport, triggering a wave of violence that led to two more deaths inside a small church 26 km away.
The gunman, who carjacked a vehicle after injuring the trooper, stormed into the church mid-service. Before firing, he chillingly said: "Someone’s gonna have to die."
Among the victims: a 72-year-old woman and a 32-year-old woman. Two others were injured, one critically. The suspect was killed at the scene by police response teams.
Officials said the shooter may have had a personal connection to the people inside the church.

Governor Andy Beshear called the violence “senseless” and praised law enforcement’s swift response. The Attorney General added: "Violence invaded the Lord's House."
The incident, which surged over 50% in search traffic within hours, has reignited national conversations about safety in places of worship.
